Online Metronome
Keep perfect time. A precise, free metronome for musicians of all levels.
Why Every Musician Needs a Metronome
Rhythm is the foundation of music. Whether you play guitar, piano, drums, or violin, playing "in time" is the difference between sounding like an amateur and a professional.
Our Online Metronome provides a steady, unyielding click that forces you to be honest about your timing. It helps you identify where you are rushing (speeding up) or dragging (slowing down).
Features for Effective Practice
👆 Tap Tempo
Don't know the BPM number? Just tap the button along with the beat of the song you're learning, and we'll tell you the tempo.
🎵 Time Signatures
Not all music is 4/4. Switch to 3/4 for waltzes or 6/8 for ballads. The first beat of the measure is accented (higher pitch) to help you keep your place.
👀 Visual Cues
Sometimes you can't hear the click over your loud drumming. Our visual indicator flashes brightly on every beat, so you can "see" the tempo.
🚀 Speed Training
Start slow. Master a passage at 60 BPM. Then bump it up to 65, then 70. This "incremental practice" is the secret to playing fast.
Common Tempo Markings
Classical music often uses Italian terms to describe tempo. Here is a quick translation guide:

- Andante: 76–108 BPM (Walking pace)
- Moderato: 108–120 BPM (Moderate speed)
- Allegro: 120–168 BPM (Fast and bright)
- Presto: 168–200 BPM (Very fast)
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the sound stop when I switch tabs? â–¼
Browsers often suspend audio contexts in inactive tabs to save battery. For uninterrupted practice, keep this tab active or pull it into a separate window.
Can I change the click sound? â–¼
Currently, we use a synthesized "beep" which cuts through the mix best. We are working on adding more sound options (woodblock, cowbell, drum stick) in the future.
