Why Scale Recipes?

Most recipes online are written for a standard family of 4. But real life isn't always standard. Maybe you're hosting a dinner party for 12, or maybe you're meal prepping for just yourself.

Doing the math in your head ("Okay, 1.5 cups divided by 4 multiplied by 7...") is a recipe for disaster. One wrong calculation can ruin the dish. Our Recipe Scaler handles the math for you, ensuring your ratios remain perfect.

Tips for Scaling Successfully

🥘 Pot Size Matters

If you double a soup recipe, make sure your pot is big enough! Conversely, if you halve a cake recipe, use a smaller pan or your cake will be flat and dry.

🧂 Spices are Tricky

Spices don't always scale linearly. If you multiply a recipe by 10, you probably don't need 10x the cayenne pepper. Scale spices conservatively and taste as you go.

🔥 Cooking Time

A larger turkey takes longer to roast. A smaller lasagna cooks faster. Don't rely blindly on the original timer. Trust your senses and use a thermometer.

🍞 Yeast & Rising

For bread, the amount of yeast doesn't always need to double if you double the flour. The dough will just rise faster with more yeast. Watch the dough, not the clock.

Common Conversions

Sometimes scaling results in awkward measurements like "0.33 cups". Here's a quick cheat sheet:

  • 0.33 cup ≈ 5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon
  • 0.125 cup = 2 tablespoons
  • 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
  • 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup
